I took these classes when I retired - for fun and to improve my French. The teaching has been a great help and my teacher is very encouraging, if a little demanding. The class is great; a wonderful mix of folks, all with the aim to get better at their French. The discussions are lively, wide-ranging, erudite. I am delighted to be able to take advantage of these classes.

Julie’s Grammar and Conversation classes are le nec plus ultra. Every week she provides different themes which provide opportunities to not only widen our vocab but give us a better insight into France and the French. And on top of that are the excellent grammar exercises. A perfect balance for a french class.

Evening class, twice a week online was ideal for me, the course tutor was very good as was the learning pace. I was surprised how much I have retained! Course level was A1.1 so I was a beginner!

I have been to French classes in the US and here in the UK. Some great with wonderful interested teachers but unfortunately not this one.
I attended this class October 2023 - December 2023 .
Our French teacher who had family in the US (dual citizenship) seemed to be totally disinterested in the outcome of our progress. Plus, even though we had purchased a course book for over 30Uk pounds the teacher gave us bits of paper each week as homework Why did we have to buy the book?
This Institute follows a very outdated way of teaching and from my experience is not good value for the course prices that they charge - with no care to their students progress
After the course finished in December 2023 they did not even follow up?

I very much recommend the group (twice weekly) online French lessons at the Institut Français with Marie-Alice.

Marie-Alice is a fantastic teacher. She is detail-orientated, thorough, patient and enjoyable to learn with. I started with A1.1 and over the last months, Marie-Alice has taught nuances of French, which I never learnt before and are staying with me, helping me to learn French. The classes are very well structured. The lessons also give insight into French culture and feel very much alive. Marie-Alice has a generous approach and a true passion for teaching.

I previously tried 1:1 lessons elsewhere which did not suit me. I find it much better to learn in a group setting.

I'm grateful to have come across such a good teacher and The Institut Français, and looking forward to signing up to A1.2 lessons!

I took the group evening classes with Laurence and could not recommend enough! She was a fantastic teacher and created an amazing classroom environment where students were engaged with what she was teaching. She cultivated a great mix of learning methods and created a space where everyone was comfortable to try and make mistakes and learn from each other. I will definitely return to the Institut Français if I take classes again.

I am so happy that in less than 20 weeks I've been able to improve so much my conversation skills in French. Nathalie Bonal of the Institut is a fabulous teacher and her class content so refreshing and engaging. I am committed to complete as many levels as possible. Overall, a great experience.
