On joining Alliance Francaise, they importantly decide the right class for you depending on your standard of French. In my case I had not learned any French previously. The small class groups allow you to learn French in an interactive and friendly atmosphere, as you progress together. The teachers are committed and work hard to ensure that each lesson is interesting, informative and fun.

Alliance Francaise is not just a language school. In parallel you learn about French life, past and present through its history, geography and culture. There are also opportunities to meet other classes through one of their many voluntary events held regularly throughout the year.

Although 2020 has been a challenging year, I have continued to enjoy my lessons with my class group via Zoom video conferencing, which has worked out surprisingly well.

I have been learning French with AF for almost 6 years and are invaluable to anyone wishing to learn or improve their French. The teaching is in small groups with students of a similar standard so you neither feel overwhelmed or bored. The classes are well prepared, fun and supportive and alongside learning the language you also learn about French culture and way of life. Outside of the classes, there is also the opportunity to participate in book clubs, ciné club and other cultural activities organised by the tutors.
AF has given me the confidence to embrace a new life in France and, for that, i can't thank my tutor Martine enough!

Great lessons with lovely teachers. So impressed by the way teachers have risen to the challenge this year of delivering not just lessons but also social/cultural activities via Zoom. In more normal times lessons are around the table in the teacher's home, which makes for a much more relaxed, sociable atmosphere than in a school. Lessons are fun and friendly. For me, the best French lessons in Bristol. Thanks

I have studied with AF for about 6 years. Teaching is in small groups (all in French, which can be a bit unnerving at first but it is very good for building confidence) and covers language but includes some cultural aspects. The very high numbers of students who sign up repeatedly, year after year, is testament to the high quality of the teaching and the enjoyable nature of the lessons. Highly recommended!

At Alliance Francaise you can learn the language but also about the history, geography and culture of France, at your own pace and level, in small convivial groups and taught entirely in French. I really enjoy the lessons and I have made great friendships over the years.

The Bristol branch of the Alliance Francaise is a small, but dynamic and imaginative organisation to be involved in. You can study French in a way that suits you, guided by committed and professional native French speakers. You'll be given a grounding in current French language, grammar, vocabulary, idiom, but in a relaxed and supportive environment. Soon you'll find that a language class evolves into something broader, putting you in touch with France and the French, their history, culture, politics. Then there's a sort of 'fringe', various other optional events and workshops, to which AF students have access: a cinema club, a theatre course (no, not studying classic French drama, but getting up on stage yourself and putting your French to good use, making up sketches, performing them in front of fellow students and friends). Then there are the workshops : wine (always popular!), cookery, cheese, seminars on eg 'Les Ponts de Paris'.
Then what about reading through, and discussing, a modern French novel week by week in class.... and then being able to hear the author in person talk about the book and to ask him questions?! Yes, AF can give you this.

My wife and I had weekly lessons with one of the Alliance Francise teachers (Emilie) who was truly exellent. She put so much work into lesson planning, really tailored the content to our needs and interests and we had a lot of fun in the lessons. Strongly reccommend!

AF is so much more than a language class. It is a community which organises films and various other cultural activities.
I have been a student wiith AF for 5 years and strongly recommend it to all francophiles and to all who believe that learning a language is one of the best ways to foster friendship with our European neighbours.
