Ashby De La Zouch Castle is a hidden gem in Leicestershire. Its rich history, stunning views, and interactive features make it a rewarding experience for visitors of all ages.
We visited here on a foggy day which made the experience even better as it added to the ambience .

The castle dates back to the 12th century but is best known for its transformation into a grand manor house by William, Lord Hastings, in the 15th century. It played a notable role during the English civil war. Walking through the ruins, you can almost feel the weight of its history.

One of the standout features is the Hastings Tower, which visitors can climb and it has total 98 steps. Once you reached to the top, the view is breathtaking. There is also an underground tunnels that you can walk through, once used to connect the tower to the kitchen, are another unique and exciting element.

There is a small visitor centre with a shop offering souvenirs and books, as well as refreshments available on-site.

A small parking just outside the castle also there is another paid parking available on walking distance.

Really beautiful place but wouldn't recommend on a weekend just because parking is such an issue. There are car parks around town but you will need to walk. Love the audio but was a bit confusing to find the chronology. There are picnic tables and I believe they serve a couple of drinks and I spied the ice cream!

It's a brilliant heritage site with some nice history. It's amazing what is left of the castle when you consider that parliament ordered it to be blown up.

Being able to scale up towers, go through an underground tunnel and have the freedom to walk the grounds is a real worth while trip for the little money they ask for.

There is a car park less than 5 minutes up the road which is free on a Sunday. Once you've finished at the grounds, you have the church next door which is a marvel in itself and then the highstreet next to that. The highstreet is somewhere you could get lost for a while, especially if you like older buildings and pubs.

I had an awesome day at Ashby de la Zouch Castle which is only 700 years old owned by English Heritage. The castle was owned by the 1st & only Lord Loughborough in the 14 century also know as Tudor Times. Very Autumnal, great blue skies and colour from the tree leaves. Great views from the castle tower with it's 93 stairs and the underway passage is fun in the dark!

Interesting castle with lots of areas to explore, great views from the top of the tower, friendly staff and very close to the high street. Don’t forget to go through the tunnel 😉

Highlights for us were the tower and the tunnel. Beautiful ruins. I'm sure we'll be back. No parking onsite, there is a carpark just up the road with free parking on Sundays.

Lovey place to visit. In looks impressive as a ruin and is well preserved, can only imagine how glorious it looked when still intact.
The area around is quite nice for a walk or a picnic. Staff at reception were very friendly and the whole experience was great. Would recommend a visit as it quite easy to reach.

Lovely to walk around but I don’t think it’s £26 worth of lovely for a family with kids.
We came here during summer holidays however we were here on a weekday so maybe they do more at weekends.
I was disappointed that there were no artefacts to see, one of the notice boars mentioned a key that was found.
