Visited today to return a book and was my first time as I took the book from another library. The blonde lady at the Reception of the Family lady who directed me where to go was lovely. The receptionist at the Adult library with the pink top or scarf on was sarcastic and rude. Telling me ' It does have Redbridge on it' when I asked if it was ok to return it to thus one. Your station where you were seated was a mess and first impressions count and you had neither. Don't be on reception if you are going to have a bad attitude for no reason.

The library isnt the problem, the problem is the asian guy that looks about 30-40 years old was kind of rude, I asked him for something I needed for my older sister and he responded with a rude manner saying: “shes an adult she can do things herself”, I understand his message but he did not know how to convey the message to me in a kind manner. So if he could fix his manner of speaking that would be good thank u.

In stark contrast to the majority of Barking & Dagenham council employees, whose work ethic & professionalism is non existent, a small yet noticeable number of BLC staff are generally speaking personable, professional and helpful.
If only the anonymous managerial desk jockey's in the Town Hall shared the same work ethic.

i arrived for the Babble babes session on time. I even rushed to get there with my 18 month old daughter. The lady in charge of the session didn't allow my daughter in because apparently she was too big.Seems like the staff running these sessions work with more of their own judgement than as professional. She said it cuts off at 18 months. When it clearly states 0-18months on site. I told her I had rushed to get there and it was hard to get out of the house as I'm going through depression. She still refused to let me in. This is absolutely appalling especially in a Borough that's suppose to provide support for mothers of young children. My daughter could also have benefited from this session as her speech hasn't fully developed yet. I left in tears today I could have really done with being in a change of environment especially for my daughter. Parents come to these sessions for support as much it benefits their children it's also for us. It's absolutely disgusting

The downsides -
Firstly, it can be very noisy for a library. Staff do not intervene unless someone goes really crazy. So, take headphones or earphones with you.
Secondly, it's not exactly overstocked with books.
Thirdly, it can get quite soporific. Maybe not enough ventilation.
That said, it's a pretty relaxed, clean environment, plenty of desks, computers and power points for electric devices. Eating of cold food is permitted. Staff are generally helpful. Opening hours are pretty generous too. No need to be a member to enter either.
Overall, if you know what to expect it's a good facility, but you will be disappointed if you expect a traditional silent library with a large range of books.

Lovely library, with very helpful and friendly staff. The children's section is exceptional and really promotes the joy of reading.

Great toilet facilities for wheelchair users and baby changing.
