Formerly a 6-star place, but not anymore.

I’ve been going to City Lit for nearly 20 years, and it’s been one of the best places for learning in London—maybe even the country. I’ve taken so many fantastic courses, always feeling welcomed and supported.

But things have changed. Booking courses is now a struggle due to admin issues, and when I applied for a bursary for the first time, I was met with excessive barriers and an outright refusal to even have my application considered.

I'm too exhausted to engage further in the 'process' right now but I really hope it can be that place again.

This college is truly a gem, with a dedicated and compassionate team like Jane and Donna in the drama department. They have been incredibly helpful and supportive during a difficult time in my life, and I am beyond grateful for their kindness. I am committed to paying it forward and supporting this organization in the future. It is truly a place that heals, encourages, and empowers people to achieve their full potential.

Amazing place for after work classes. The French classes are really informative and our teacher Valerie always makes sure to listen to the class, changing the pace and structure to benefit her students.

The building has tables downstairs to study at and has great facilities including drinking water fountains and an informative front desk.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first face-to-face class at City Lit. What a treat to learn about the physics of time from Radmila Topalovic who is the best teacher EVER!!! She is funny, knowledgeable and paces the class brilliantly, engaging with her audience throughout. I have NEVER enjoyed a physics lesson as much as this one. I have also done two online courses at City Lit - a beginner's Italian class during the pandemic. The Italian tutor was in Sicily - what a treat! After that I did an online course on making a website, culminating in being able to make a perfectly serviceable website. Bravo City Lit!

Sewing and fashion courses: I had a fantastic tutor who was very flexible to each individual's needs. She was approachable, knowledgeable and working with her for 'Sewing on Sundays' levels 1 and 2 has really developed my ability to sew and make clothes from a complete beginner to someone that can have a go, understand the principles of pattern cutting, use an overlocker, troubleshoot a sewing machine, and produce wearable pieces. The investment in these two courses has been worthwhile and I've now met a community of like-minded people. Thanks citylit!

Completed Tracy Seed's Nonviolent Communication course and found it really good! The online format was engaging and Tracy's facilitation style made complex concepts accessible and practical. Learned invaluable skills for empathetic listening and expressing needs clearly. The course offered a perfect blend of theory and real-world application. I highly recommend for anyone looking to enhance their communication skills!

I can't speak for other courses here but I attended two courses (Lecoq L1, L2) led by Sean Croft and they were superb. It takes a rare combination of skills, experiences and personality traits to be a truly effective educator and Sean is precisely that. Not only is he an exceptional performer and experienced practitioner himself, he is a brilliant and inspiring teacher. Thank you Sean and City Lit; looking forward to more.
