I completed a business course at this college a year and a bit ago and, I achieved strong grades, my overall experience was disappointing due to the attitude of the tutors (the woman that is head of business). Academically, the course material was comprehensive, and I was able to succeed despite the lack of meaningful support from the teaching staff.

Unfortunately, many of the tutors were dismissive and seemed to have little concern for students beyond their academic performance. When personal issues arose, there was no effort to provide understanding or flexibility, which made the learning environment feel cold and unsupportive. It often felt like the tutors prioritized deadlines over student well-being, which is disheartening, especially given how challenging higher education can be.

One of the biggest issues is their phone policy, they take your phone without making this clear before you start. As a business owner, my phone is essential for managing work, and having it taken away has caused unnecessary disruptions.

Beyond that, the overall organisation of the college could be much better. There are delays in communication, and the way certain rules are enforced feels inconsistent. Instead of creating a supportive learning environment, it often feels restrictive.

I expected a place that prepares students for the real world, especially for those balancing education with business or personal responsibilities

I fell far behind because I went for life saving surgery at the start of the year in September. I was kept in the hospital to recover, however despite that I would go on teams every single day and do my coursework to the best of my ability. I struggled with completing the coursework due to not being taught anything so I communicated my struggles with tutors. They would ask me not to message them and instead message somebody else. One tutor claimed that she wasn’t allowed to show me how to do anything over the phone and that I’d have to come in person in order to be helped out. Then when I DID recover and was discharged from hospital, I would come to college in person only to be sat in a classroom with everybody on their laptops completing work. I had repeatedly asked for help because at the point in time, I was EXTREMELY far behind. They tried to justify this with the fact that I was on a fast paced access course they simply had to move onto another topic. If they taught me the missing units, I still wouldn’t have enough time to type up the assignment. I would have understood this completely if they had already taught me something, but they hadn’t. Every time I went into class, they would have everybody pull out their laptops and complete coursework. For the time that I was there, I hadn't been taught anything despite practically begging them to catch me up so I can move on from college to university. In the end, I withdrew from the course so my EHCP funding didn’t go to waste. I’ll be applying to a different course in July and it will not be at this campus. Waste of time and resources.

I just came to the city of Manchester and I have already experienced three other colleges in another city. Of course, I used to be a high school and university teacher in my country and I can well understand the differences and I want to say that the educational system of this college is unique, especially the behavior The employees are really respectful and kind. My teacher, Miss Anastasia, is a cultured, unique and literate lady, very patient and respectable.

I had a negative experience at Shena Simon campus. The atmosphere is very bad and unprofessional behaviour of Julie, who consistently disrespects students. Her attitude is dismissive and rude, creating a toxic environment that hinders learning and collaboration.

It's truly disheartening to see Ellie, the most dedicated and talented tutor, working under such conditions. She deserves a much better environment to showcase her skills and provide the excellent support she's known for. Unfortunately, the overall experience at Shena Simon campus is severely tarnished by the poor leadership and lack of respect shown by Julie.

Avoid this college , don’t even waste your time going for an interview or enrolment.

I went to attend for business level 3 course as I previously finished level 2 business at a different college but they college what I attended had discontinued business courses, I was humiliated by the head of business department (Julie ) in front of half a class of students, I am Muslim myself and I flagged it up with the college staff and they haven’t done anything about this matter . I went back to enrol on business level 3 course and I was in the college for 7-8hrs getting messed around as I explained that I want to do business level 3 and I can stay behind to finish my English GCSEs (for about 1hr a day) they gave me nothing but attitude, I remained calm but you can’t remain calm in that situation as it felt like you needed to fight with them. Then this random woman decided that my qualifications weren’t actual qualifications 🤣🤣, and told me to get one more level 2 qualification and English qualification baring in mind that I got a high D grade and I stated that I would be willing to stay behind 1-2hr a day (5-10hrs a week) to be able to resit in November 2024 and get a grade 4/5. She started to say that I couldn’t do that as it will be to much , I thought that college you was actually meant to work hard and I’m a hardworking/ passionate student and want the absolute best grades possible.

Then they started to chat about me behind my back which made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and that’s not what teachers/ touters are supposed to do.

I really would have liked to have tried to give it a 2nd chance by studying at the college for a few weeks then do a self review or not to stay there. But going off these reviews I thinking now it’s not just myself , other people who have studied at this college for 3/4 weeks have helped me to decide, I would 100% avoid this college especially if you have grade 4 or higher. There’s far better more colleges to choose if you have a grade 4/5 or higher which don’t display any of this behaviour what I have received and who actually care!! Care about your education and the grades you’re aiming for! Absolute racist college (from the staff) !!! Would rate it a minus if possible.

Uhm they don't put you in the right course. How does trafford college alow ppl without gcses and manchester college makes you do level 1 or e1 e2 and e3? They didn't even give me a test at the start of the year to see where I am at.
